The changing rooms at Sidmouth Swimming Pool have had a cosmetic refresh – and the refurbishment is now very close to completion.
The changing, shower, and locker facilities have all been updated. There are now new locker doors and locks, new shower panels fitted over the existing tiles, and new pipe work and toilets as well as additional cubicle space in the female changing room.
In addition, in the reception area as you walk in, the seating area has been given a new look – and will soon feature a new café offering complete with self-serve hot drinks and even ice creams, and a space for people to work while they wait.
'A great facility in the heart of the town'
Financially supported by East Devon District Council and public body Sport England's Community Leisure Recovery Fund, work began on 14 February this year and has taken around three months to get to this stage.
Leisure Manager Steve Reid said: "It was important that we could improve the facilities to ensure customers enjoy the pool but feel proud to have such a great facility in the heart of the town. We're confident this investment will make a significant contribution post-Covid to a valued community asset at a time when it's needed most.
"The building is getting older and more difficult to maintain, but we were lucky to receive funding via the Community Leisure Recovery Fund. We used the feedback from customers to target the areas that where most in need of an uplift."
What's new?
The refurbishments at Sidmouth Swimming Pool are as follows:
· New locker doors, locks;
· New shower panels;
· New pipe work;
· New toilets;
· Bank of lockers removed for extra light;
· More cubicle space and an extra changing space in the female changing room, described as 'ideal for changing with little ones';
· New café area (coffee and refreshments coming soon)
There are still a few finishing touches to add but the work is nearly complete.
The shop at the pool remains fully stocked for all your swimming needs, and from 6 June there'll no longer be any need to book in for a swim.
