Heavy rain has caused severe flooding in parts of Sidmouth as the area struggles with five days of rain.

According to reports on social media parts of the Woolbrook area are almost impassable to cars and Four Elms Hill is also inundated with water.

In response to today's flooding Devon and Cornwall Police have reminded drivers to 'Slow. Down.' in wet conditions and be aware of standing water on the roads.

Lucy Coles posted a picture (above) of flooding in the Woolbrook area of Sidmouth to a local Facebook group, she said: "Woolbrook by the church is basically impossible."

Sidmouth Community Facebook page admin, Ian Humphries has also warned of severe flooding on Four Elms Hill between Station Road and Bowd.

There also reports the route from Sidford to Sidbury is almost impassable now.

Here's the advice issued to drivers today by Devon and Cornwall Police:

-Slow. DOWN!

-Keep your distance from the car in front (minimum 2 seconds in good weather, at least 4 seconds in wet weather).

-Beware of standing water – aquaplaning can overwhelm the most modern safety system equipped cars.

-Headlights on dipped beam please: don't rely on daytime running lights in the rain as these may not also be illuminated at the rear of the vehicle.
