The principal of Sidmouth College has paid tribute to Prince Philip for his contribution to the lives of young people, through the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The Duke, who died on April 9, founded his awards scheme in 1956, and millions of young people's lives have been transformed by taking part.

Sidmouth College offers its Year 9 and Year 10 students the chance to enter the Bronze and Silver awards respectively.

Principal, Sarah Parsons, said: "At Sidmouth College we are a strong supporter of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

"It is such a valuable achievement for young people, enabling them to build skills, confidence and resilience while preparing them for life.

"We are fortunate to have staff to lead this award which empowers our young people, they not only gain lifelong experiences but enrich the wider community through volunteering.

"Our students have been inspired by this programme and the College will continue to offer the award at all levels.

"The legacy of the Duke of Edinburgh Award will continue to impact positively on our young people in the future."
