Work to improve The Ham play park in Sidmouth is expected to be complete in mid-January, Sidmouth Town Council has announced.

The local authority had hoped to have it open in time for Christmas, but "incredibly wet weather" in November has reportedly delayed the project as the ground needed to be allowed to drain.

The upgrade was also delayed earlier this year over "a shortage of key materials".

Cllr Louise Cole said: "I know this will be disappointing to our children and families as we approach the Christmas holidays.

"It is very frustrating, but we will get there.

"The equipment is in and offers a tantalising glimpse of a very-much-improved play space to enjoy.

"Against many challenging circumstances, here's to a positive end in sight and for the new year."

Meanwhile, Long Park, also in Sidmouth, reopened in September.
