A new date for Sidmouth Lions' Duck Derby in the Byes has now been announced.

The event, featuring thousands of rubber ducks racing down the River Sid, was originally due to take place on Sunday 18 September but was postponed following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

It will now take place on Sunday 16 October.

Over £1,000 in cash prizes is up for grabs for sponsors of the winning yellow ducks in the main race, which is in aid of Children's Hospice South West, Devon Freewheelers and Sidmouth Lions Club's charity activities.

There will also be a 'corporate' race with red ducks sponsored by local businesses.

Timings

The event will take place on Sunday 16 October from 2pm to 4.30pm.

  • 2pm: The children's 'duck and spoon' races near the lawn vista cycle bridge;
  • 2.45pm: First duck race with hundreds of red ducks sponsored by local businesses;
  • 3pm: Main duck race with thousands of yellow ducks sponsored by individuals.

The two duck races will start from the cycle bridge and finish near the weir at the Salcombe Road entrance to The Byes.

How can I take part?

Sales of the £1 yellow duck tickets from Sidmouth Lions stands outside the Co-op and Potbury's will restart early in October.

Tickets can also be bought at Paper Moon on 38 Fore Street, Cards@83 on High Street, and from Woolbrook News on Woolbrook Road.

Grand prize draw in aid of Ukraine refugee crisis

In addition to the £1,000 in cash prizes available there is also an opportunity to enter a grand prize draw to win one of a number of prizes at the Duck Derby on Sunday 16 October.

£2 will provide participants with five chances to win one of 12 prizes. The raffle is part of the Lions Club's fundraising efforts in aid of the Ukrainian refugee crisis.
