Works to replace the emergency exit steps at Sidmouth's East Beach are due to take place in November this year.

East Devon District Council has said that the current scaffold-steps are "prone to storm damage" and so will be replaced with bespoke metal stairs.

It will follow works to repair the sea wall, ramp, and replace some of the handrails with a wall at Jacob's Ladder beach.

The local authority has reminded the public that East Beach is "still not advised or encouraged due to the ongoing cliff falls", but an emergency exit point will be provided for the foreseeable future.

East Beach has seen a series of dramatic cliff falls recently, with the police and coastguard warning to keep away from the area.
