The findings of a five-year study into a wild population of beavers, reintroduced to the River Otter, have been published today showing a positive outcome for the local area.

Evidence presented by scientists has concluded that the "quantifiable costs and benefits of beaver reintroduction of wild beavers to the River Otter demonstrates that the ecosystem services and social benefits accrued are greater than the financial costs incurred". 

The splash defence is part of Sidmouth and East Beach Management Plan that has been designed to try and protect the town from the elements and reduce the rate of erosion following several large cliff failures shown at Pennington Point and along East Cliff.

The glass wall on the seafront last weekend survived Storm Ciara, and bar two very small chips, was undamaged by Storm Dennis.

Devon and Cornwall Police are warning people to look out for their own safety as Storm Dennis lashes down on Exmouth.

Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision, which took place yesterday on the A3052 from Seaton Road to the B3174 Hollyhead Road.

A statement released by Devon and Somerset police said: "At approximately 10.25am yesterday police were notified of a road traffic collision on the A3052 between Seaton and Sidford.

A collision involving a car and a lorry has blocked the A3052 from Seaton Road to B3174 Hollyhead Road causing major disruption to traffic in the area.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at around 10.25am to reports of a collision involving a lorry and a car on the A3052 near Branscombe.

The A3052 from Seaton Road to B3174 Hollyhead Road has been closed both ways due to a collision that took place at around 10am this morning.

A car and a lorry are reported to have been involved in the crash.

After Storm Ciara unleashed her fury on Sidmouth's Esplanade last weekend - the glass panel did stand up to the battering in case you missed it - we are in for another patch of 'menacing' weather.

According to MET Ofiice reports, Storm Dennis will be making an appearance on Saturday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to much of the UK.
